The
Department of Management Studies is
a result of an evolutionary process
of growth from an idea floated in
1963. What was then a seed gradually
came to life. Through 1974, 1975,
various expert committees worked to
launch the first ever postgraduate
management programme in 1976.Prof.Sudhir
Kakar was the first coordinator of
this programme. In 1993 the Management
Area acquired the status of a statutory
Department of IIT(D) with Prof.Vinayshil
Gautam as the first Head .IIT(D) was
the first IIT to have a regular Department
focused just on ,'Management Studies'.
In 1997 the postgraduate programme
in Management was formally christened
an MBA programme.
